Gopeshwar Shiva Temple

To the east of Ramakrishna’s room lies the Gopeshwar Shiva Temple. Sukhlal Goswami or his grandfather Gopilal Goswami established this temple and installed a large Shivalinga. Once, when Ramakrishna was in a state of spiritual ecstasy at Dakshineswar, his mother heard he had gone mad. She prayed fervently to Lord Shiva here for her son’s recovery. She heard a divine voice directing her to pray to Shiva at Mukundapur, assuring her that her son would be cured.
