Sitanath Pyne used to organize plays for Shivaratri. On February 24, 1846, Gadadhar was asked to play Shiva when the original actor fell ill. His performance was so deeply spiritual that he went into a trance, shedding tears of ecstasy, and the play had to be stopped.
