Near Lakshmijala stands a huge Banyan tree where Sri Ramakrishna used to meditate day and night. Nearby is the Bhutir cremation ground. Thakur used to offer food to the jackals and spirits of the cremation ground here in a unique way.
Bhanu Pishi was a childhood companion of the Holy Mother. She recognized the divinity in Sarada Devi from a very young age. Mother often sought refuge here.
A small canal flowing past Jayrambati which Mother called 'My Ganga'. She used to bathe here. There is also a cremation ground nearby.
Southeast of Ramakrishna's room was the house of Dhani Kamarini. Devotees have now built a temple there, featuring an oil painting of Gadadhar in Dhani's lap. Dhani was Gadadhar's midwife. Gadadhar had promised Dhani that he would accept his first alms from her during his sacred thread ceremony, despite it being against the family's custom to accept alms from a non-Brahmin.
Chinu (Srinivas) Shankhari was a devout Vaishnava who recognized the divinity of Gadadhar. He believed Sri Chaitanya had been reborn as Gadadhar. He loved feeding Gadadhar, who later referred to him as 'Chine Shankhari'.
Located at the eastern end of Kamarpukur. Thakur spent much time here and at Bhutir Khal cremation ground. Nearby was an old inn where monks used to rest, and young Gadadhar would often serve them.
A historic place southeast of Kamarpukur. It was once a fort protected by a moat formed by the Amodar River. Ruins of the fort can still be seen.
To the east of Ramakrishna's room lies the Gopeshwar Shiva Temple. Sukhlal Goswami or his grandfather Gopilal Goswami established this temple and installed a large Shivalinga. Once, when Ramakrishna was in a state of spiritual ecstasy at Dakshineswar, his mother heard he had gone mad. She prayed fervently to Lord Shiva here for her son's recovery. She heard a divine voice directing her to pray to Shiva at Mukundapur, assuring her that her son would be cured.
The only park for children in Kamarpukur, managed by the Ramakrishna Mission. It is open daily from 4 PM to 6 PM.
The ancestral home of Sri Ramakrishna. His father Khudiram left this place to avoid giving false testimony in a court case and moved to Kamarpukur.
The mud-walled, thatched mandap south of Matri Mandir where Holy Mother started the Jagaddhatri Puja. She worshipped here for about 50 years. The puja continues to this day.
Located three miles north of Jayrambati. Mother often rested here on her way to Kolkata. She called Koalpara her 'parlor' (drawing room).
The school was held in the large Natmandir in front of the Laha family's Durga Temple. Gadadhar was admitted there at the age of five. He learned to read and write quickly but soon lost interest in formal education as a different spiritual state began to develop in him. He would often become overwhelmed by seeing specific scenes or thinking of deities. His mother thought he was ill and stopped sending him to school for a long time.
The large pond opposite the Shiva Temple is named Haldar Pukur. Many childhood memories of Gadadhar are associated with this pond. He used to come here to swim with his friends.
Located directly opposite the pathshala to the west is the Laha family's Chandi Mandap or Durga Temple. It was built by landlord Dharmadas Laha in 1257 BS. Durga Puja is still celebrated here every year.
Sukhlal Goswami donated some cottages and land to Khudiram, which became known as Lakshmijala. The land was so fertile that it produced enough paddy for the family and guests. Nearby is Bhutir Khal, where Sri Ramakrishna often spent time in his youth.
Sarada Devi's residence is currently under the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. The house has been converted into a monastery named 'Matri Mandir Math, Jayrambati'. Within this Math are the Matri Mandir, Mother's Old House, New House, Punyipukur, and the Sundarnarayan Dharma Thakur Temple.
The parlor was a place for discussions with people. The old wooden door of the parlor is still in place. To the east of the parlor stands a mango tree planted by Thakur himself, which still bears fruit.
A small temple west of Punyipukur dedicated to Sundarnarayan Dharma Thakur, the family deity of the Holy Mother.
Located near the pathshala, this temple looks like a building. It has 20 terracotta figures on its walls. The sanctum houses the Damodar Shila. When young Gadadhar lost interest in studies, he would come here to paint pictures of Ma Kali and meditate.
In her childhood, Mother used to cut grass for cows near this pond, now known as Mother's Pond. The ghat is called Mother's Ghat.
This temple is located southwest of Thakur's birthplace. Upon the command received at Gopeshwar Temple, Gadadhar's mother fasted and prayed to Shiva here to cure her son's madness. She heard a divine voice saying, 'Do not fear, your son is not mad; he is intoxicated with God.' Since then, many people visit this temple to fulfill their wishes.
'Mother's New House' is located within the Matri Mandir Math. Sarada Devi lived in the first room on the left from May 1915 to February 1920. Many devotees received initiation from her in this room. Her niece Nalini Devi lived in the adjacent room, and Jagaddhatri Puja was performed in the room opposite Nalini Devi's.
'Mother's Old House' is located to the left of the main entrance of Matri Mandir Math. Sarada Devi lived here for about 52 years until 1915. Many householders and monastics received initiation from her here.
There was a brick Shiva temple in front of Sitanath Pyne's house. Only the altar remains today. It is said the priest took the idol to his own home in Baranagar.
Located in Jayrambati, this temple worships young children (4-5 years old) as Narayana. It is part of the Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission, Barrackpore.
Raghubir's room in Kamarpukur was east-facing with a thatched roof and earthen floor. The current Raghubir Temple is built on the same spot with the same dimensions. The Salagram Shila of Raghubir, the earthen pot of Ma Shitala, Rameswar Shivalinga, Narayana Salagram Shila, and a picture of Gopala are worshipped here daily.
The large pond in front of the Matri Mandir is known as Punyipukur. Holy Mother used its water for a long time. It is now preserved by the Math authorities.
Manik Chandra Banerjee, known as Manik Raja for his generosity, was a close friend of Khudiram Chattopadhyay. Young Gadadhar would often visit his house.
The Laha family was once very prosperous in Kamarpukur. They had a Ras Mancha where the Ras festival was celebrated, attracting people from far away. The stage eventually collapsed due to lack of maintenance, but a new Ras Mancha has now been built where the festival is celebrated annually.
At the Natmandir of this temple, the Holy Mother Jagadjanani chose Sri Ramakrishna as her husband.
The home of Hridayram Mukhopadhyay, Thakur's nephew, in Shihor village, 2km from Jayrambati. Thakur famously appeared to Hriday here during Durga Puja in a spiritual vision.
The Simhavahini Temple is located near Jayrambati Matri Mandir Math. Simhavahini is the village deity of Jayrambati, a form of Durga. There is no full idol here, only the metal faces of Simhavahini Durga, Mahamaya, Chandi, and Manasa are worshipped. Sarada Devi worshipped here many times. The soil of this temple is believed to be sacred and medicinal.
Located in Bene Para, the house of gold and silver merchant Sitanath Pyne was a gathering place. Sitanath was very fond of Gadadhar and admired his spiritual nature. Gadadhar would often perform acting and singing here.
Sri Ramakrishna once lived in this south-facing room on the western side of the Kamarpukur courtyard. It is now part of the temple complex. He once told Ma Sarada, 'After my death, you will stay in Kamarpukur, grow green vegetables, live simply, and spend your days chanting the name of God.'
This place has become a pilgrimage site due to the advent of Sri Ramakrishna and the visits of his disciples and devotees. Devotees from all over West Bengal, India, and the world come to visit this place for spiritual upliftment.
Sitanath Pyne used to organize plays for Shivaratri. On February 24, 1846, Gadadhar was asked to play Shiva when the original actor fell ill. His performance was so deeply spiritual that he went into a trance, shedding tears of ecstasy, and the play had to be stopped.
In a small room near Punyipukur, Sarada Devi's family deity, Sundarnarayan Dharma Thakur, is worshipped. Previously, Shitala and Salagram Shila were also worshipped here. Later, more idols and pictures of deities were installed.
A field near Arambagh where Mother once met a dacoit couple. Her divine presence melted the heart of the dacoit. A temple has now been established at that spot.
Located about 3km north of Kamarpukur, the temple of Vishalakshi Devi is known to be very powerful. People from surrounding villages come here to offer prayers.
To the north of Thakur's room is the Yogi's Shiva Temple. Once, while Thakur's mother was talking to her neighbor Dhani, a light suddenly emanated from the Shiva idol, illuminating the entire temple, and entered her body. She fainted in awe and fear. When she regained consciousness, she felt the light was still in her womb and that she had conceived. This resulted in the birth of Gadadhar.
